At the top of this page sits an aerial photograph of my Universe. Willimantic.  It is also the lens through which I view the larger Universe. I found that photograph on Google maps. I kept it on the screen of my computer for a long time. This piece of Earth defined basically by Main Street, Bridge Street, Pleasant Street and the Footbridge, is where I live, love, laugh and – if you expand it ever so slightly – work and shop.  Home, you might call it.

Willimantic, Now and Then is a journal of my home, my community and my life. It is a collection of stories about living here in Willimantic, Connecticut; in that sacred pentagram pictured above. Oh, I venture out from time to time. There’ always a story around that. I like to bring those stories back to Willimantic. In my mind they are all connected. This is a community where I have pretty deep roots, and they touch some pretty special people. More and more I want to tell their stories, for we have many stories. Every community does. Our stories are our legends; they’re how we will be known by future generations.

So, pull a stool up to the fire and relax. I want to keep adding my voice to the stories by which our community will be known. I would welcome stories from you, as well. Perhaps I’ll use them as a basis for an essay, or as stand-alone stories? Perhaps some other way? We'll burn that bridge when we come to it! I’d love to hear from you.

Enjoy!
